La vie au pied du jet d’eau

Symbole de Genève, le jet d’eau voit passer chaque jour des milliers de visages sur les quais. Pendant deux ans, le photographe Demir Sönmez s’est rendu au pied de ce géant pour y capturer les habitants et habitantes de Genève, les touristes, les habitués et habituées ou simplement le passage des saisons, la lumière. Il a voulu graver sur sa pellicule ces fragments de vie: l’ombre du jet d’eau dansant sur le lac au clair de lune, les amoureux valsant dans cette atmosphère romantique, les jeunes fêtant un anniversaire, les mélodies des artistes de rue résonnant sur les quais, les conversations profondes au bord de l’eau.

De cette démarche est d’abord née une exposition. Aujourd’hui, ce livre prolonge l’aventure en offrant un écrin durable à ces deux années de rencontres et d’échanges au pied du jet d’eau.

The Jet d’Eau, a symbol of Geneva, sees thousands of faces pass by on the waterfront every day. For two years, photographer Demir Sönmez walked to the foot of this giant to capture the people of Geneva, the tourists, the regulars or simply the passing of the seasons and the light. He sought to preserve these snippets of life on film: the shadow of the Jet d’Eau dancing across the lake in the moonlight, lovers waltzing in this romantic atmosphere, young people celebrating a birthday, the melodies of street performers echoing along the quays, and deep conversations by the water.

This project was first presented as an exhibition. Today, this book carries it forward, providing a lasting record of two years of encounters and exchanges at the foot of the Jet d’Eau.
